The acronym "EMV" refers to a specification for payment cards that are equipped with a processor chip. EMV stands for the three companies that have developed the standard: Europay International, Mastercard and VISA.

Due to the introduction of the EMV security standard, an increasing number of cards are equipped not only with a magnet stripe but also with a tamper-proof chip. This technology considerably reduces the fraudulent use of cards.

Chip credit card holders can authenticate who they are with their signature or by entering a PIN. The card issuing bank decides which authentication method is to be used. This information is stored on the chip.

All of our  Terminals  are equipped with a magnetic stripe as well as a chip card reader and process payments to the EMV security standard. The reader therefore first of all checks for a chip. If the card is not equipped with a chip, it falls back onto the magnetic stripe.
